OLD GERMANIC LANGUAGES, THEIR ALPHABETS AND WRITTEN RECORDS
I. Old Germanic alphabets.
- The runic alphabet, its origin. Futhark and other runic alphabets. Runic inscriptions
- Learn the Runic alphabet and be ready to decipher Runic inscriptions.
- The Gothic alphabet.
- The Latin alphabet.
II. Periodization of the Old Germanic language history. Characteristics of periods.
III. Old Germanic languages and their written records.
- East Germanic languages.
- West Germanic languages: Old English, Old High German, Old Frisian, Old Saxon, Old Low Franconian.
- Old Norse and its division into eastern and western subgroups.
a) West Scandinavian l-ges: Icelandic; Norwegian; Faroese.
b) East Scandinavian languages: Swedish; Danish.
