  1. Place of Germanic languages among other IE Languages and their classification.  
  2. The Comparative method. Its founders and basic notions. The concept of PG.

    Old Germanic languages. Pliny’s classification of the Germanic tribes. *

  1. Specific features of Germanic languages.

    a/ Word stress;

    b/ Changes  in PG phonology.

 – Changes within the system of PG consonants: Grimm’s Law, Verner’s Law;

 –  Changes within the system of PG vowels: the Germanic Vowel Shift.

Germanic Fracture.

    c/ Morphological structure of the PG word. 

    d/ Changes in PG  morphology.

        – Noun Declensions;

        – Strong and Weak Declensions of Adjectives;

        – Strong and Weak Verbs.

    e/ PG Vocabulary.
